Day 9 - Riding to Rocky Harbor

It has become obvious to us that we did not allot enough time to Newfoundland Island.

There is so much to see in this amazing place.

But, today, we are leaving for Rocky Harbour. While there we are going to try and make a run over to Trout River also.

Time to pack up...

...get it all on the bike...

...say goodbye to Twillingate...

...and get moving on our...

...450 km ride to Rocky Harbour.

Riding from one island to another...

...across a causeway.

Settling in for a...

...scenic ride....

...with our first big city being Lewisporte, which is right before we get back on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Rolling along...

...this coastal route...

...hopping from island to island...

...as we make our way to Lewisporte, and the "mainland" of the island.

One of the rare bridges...

...connecting islands...

...most connections between islands are causeways...

...or sometimes a ferry.

The fun road, the views...

...and the peaceful beauty seem endless.

Mary in the Mirror - We're only about 1/4 the way to Rocky Harbour and we run into some construction...

...but it's not long before we're rolling again...

...before we know it, we are in Lewisporte, getting some gas, before heading on toward the Trans Canada Highway.

We have seen dozens of signs warning about moose, citing moose accidents, etc. BUT, we have not seen a single moose! lol

On the Trans Can Hwy now, thoroughly enjoying...

...the interior of NF, as are other riders.

There are a lot of miles (or I should say KM's) between Lewisporte...

...and Gros Morne National Park...

...that we are going to travel thru to get to Rocky Harbour.

But there is no shortage of amazing views on Newfoundland Island!

We're a bit over halfway now...

...I get gas when I can...

...there's a lot of road, a lot of woods, dunno when I'll see gas again.

Fellow travelers!

But mostly...

a lot of woods and roadway to ourselves.

We're getting close to...

Deer Lake...

...which is not a long ways from Rocky Harbour!

One last stop for gas before getting into Gros Morne National Park.

We're in the park now...

...this is an amazing place...

...and the harbor comes way inland...

...we're close now...

...here we are!

We rode around the harbor a bit...

...before heading to the motel that Mary has reservations at.

The place is HUGE!

Wow, that's a good looking Trike out front.  Gotta get it unloaded into the room...

...before we go off exploring around Rocky Harbour a bit.

After unpacking, it's time to explore...

...the coastline of Rocky Harbour...

...some more, before...

...heading up the hill...

...to check out...

...Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse!

It is a bit of a walk...

...and there are trails all around...

...the top of the hill where the Lighthouse sits.

Ok, we're done here. Time to go eat.

Ok, time to get back on the TG...

...head back down the hill to...

...Rocky Harbour...

...to find some grub. The Anchor Pub looks good.

Eating outside seems like a good way to watch the sunset...

It's a bit chilly, but the food is good...

...as is the view.

One last look before...

...we head back to our room.

Tomorrow we are going to try and see Trout River before heading to Port aux Basques, which is where the 5 hour ferry ride will take us back to the mainland day after tomorrow.
