Let me start by saying I have been riding Harleys for about 6 years… Before that it was sport bikes only… No Ifs, ands, or buts about it… Only old guys rode cruisers and I wasn’t old YET. However, as I was rolling into my late 20s I couldn’t help but feel like a try-hard-to-be-cool Power Ranger. WHY DO WE CARE what others think… Just human nature I guess
.
So, I sought out my first Harley-Davidson, a 2001 Dyna. This would be it, I would now be content with the bike I rode. It didn’t take long to realize this was a world of its own. I went to a few rallies with friends that had been riding cruisers for a while, older cats that have forgotten more about motorcycles than most of us will ever know. Since becoming a ‘Harley Enthusiast’ I have witnessed some very cool things that only this lifestyle can show you… Comradery, Charity, and an overall willingness to offer help to other bikers. The most glaringly impressive thing I have noticed is the sense of adventure that most have to traverse thousands of miles on a motorcycle… Just for the hell of it!
But, there are a few things that I could never get on board with...The Wolf t-shirts, the flaming skulls, The Screamin’ Seagulls! Since the clapped out Dyna I have went all in… a couple sportsters, and most recently put my first born up as a down payment on an ‘18 Deluxe.
Am I wrong to feel this way? Can one love HD motorcycles but despise the image? Am I just an elitist hipster douche? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW

Riding is freedom no matter what you ride.
They make you walk past the clothing line to get to the parts counter at the dealership.
It's kind of like walking past the candy bars to get to the counter to pay for your gas at the stations.
Those that like the candy bars, buy them.
Just don't put me down when I bypass them.
I'll ride beside you either way.

posted on 2/23/2019 5:41 AMVery funny read, thanks for sharing. I ride a 1975 Honda CB750F some days I just want to bang around town...you know, to get from point A-B. Some days when we do our ‘Frozen-Snot’ ride in April or the Flying Kenevel Ride in June around Milwaukee. Sometimes I’ve taken my 12’ RKC on the rides and before that, sometimes I rode my ’08 Deluxe...no big deal.
Point is...it doesn’t matter what you ride, nor when you ride it. Don’t worry about what a bike makes or doesn’t make you ‘look’ like. Anyone that judges others for what they ride is the douche. Just love what you ride and ride what you love. Screw the public opinion...isn’t that really the point?
I don’t ride to impress others, I ride to enjoy what it allows me to do...whatever I want to. Personally, the summer touring I do with my buddies may be a bit closer the wild hogs than I’m willing to admit, but I enjoy riding across the US each summer on my American made Road King. Just something about it I can’t quite put my finger on nor explain, but I know the feeling when I find it.
My group is small (7 in total) and we ride a variety of 2 and/or 3 wheeled bikes. We range in ages from early 30’s on a trike, fourties on a VTX, to mid 60’s on a geezer-glide. We ride together because we love to ride. The make, model and # of wheels doesn’t matter. There’s also an Indian and a Ninja in our group as well.
Love what you ride and ride what you love...the hell with the overly judgemental, elitist hipster D-Bags. They haven’t found what they’re passionate about, and judge those that have, in order to justify he stereotypes they promote.
