There spacer keeps the shifter in-board, giving even more room for your foot on the floorboard. Without it, the shift peg stays in the same position, relative to the floorboard as stock. Either way will work, it's just a preference of whether you want the shift peg in the same position, relative to the floorboard, or if you want the shift peg a little more in-board of the floorboard. Good addition 0 people found this helpfulI wasn’t sure about the need for this when I was buying the extensions, but so glad I did. It allows the shift linkage to remain in the stock location rather than push out toward the extended shifter otherwise. Some said I might need a front shift extension but I don’t think it’s necessary at all. In fact, it’s nice to have the extra room for the front of my foot!
